SIRT is a way of giving radiation via tiny radioactive microsphere that are injected into the artery supplying blood to the tumour, this minimises the risk of radiation damage to healthy surrounding tissues and allows effective targeted doses of radiotherapy to be delivered to the tumour.

We worked with Boston Scientific, the manufacturers of TheraSphere (one of the approved SIRTs) on this submission to NICE and are so pleased that NICE has approved access to treatment. This is brilliant for patients, especially those who may not be able to tolerate systemic chemotherapy, which is the existing standard of care for advanced disease.
